1. Colts end the Foxborough drought
The most famous player rivalry of our current generation might just be Peyton Manning vs. Tom Brady. On Nov. 7, 2005, the Colts went into the Patriots’ home stadium and won for the first time there since 1995. It was a statement game for Peyton and company, as the Colts dominated throughout.
Manning had 321 passing yards and three passing touchdowns. Running back Edgerrin James rushed for over 100 yards and a touchdown. Marvin Harrison and Reggie Wayne both topped the 100 yard mark in terms of receiving yards. The final score was Colts 40, Patriots 21.
2. Monday Night Football debut
On Halloween night in 1988, the Colts played on Monday Night Football for the first time in the franchise's history. They made a statement loud and clear, defeating Denver by a score of 55-23.
Running back Eric Dickerson rushed 21 times for 159 yards and a set club record of four rushing touchdowns. All four touchdowns were in the first half as the Colts raced out to a 45-10 half-time advantage. The game was never in doubt and the Colts announced their presence on a national stage.
3. The improbable comeback
When a team is down 21 points with under 4 minutes to play, you can't fault someone for turning the game off and preparing for bed. A lot of the country probably did just that on Oct. 6, 2003. Tampa Bay had a 35-14 lead with 3:37 to go.
Indianapolis ended up winning the game in overtime by a final score of 38-35. James Mungro, Marvin Harrison and Ricky Williams all scored touchdowns late in regulation before Mike Vanderjagt's overtime kick finished the comeback.
