Four Winds South Bend history

Following the opening of three Michigan casinos—Four Winds New Buffalo (2007), Four Winds Hartford (2011), and Four Winds Dowagiac (2013)—the Pokagon Band of Potawatomi Indians built the $400 million Four Winds South Bend property and opened it on January 16, 2016.

Originally, Four Winds South Bend operated as a Class II facility offering only poker and some electronic games. In 2021, the tribe successfully amended its gaming compact with the state to add slots, table games, and a sportsbook. It also increased its games offering.

Also, part of the new compact was a guarantee that no other casinos would be allowed in the South Bend area. In exchange, the Pokagon Band of Potawatomi Indians pays 8% of slot machine revenue back to the state.

In 2021, the tribe announced plans to undertake a major expansion to the casino, namely adding a luxury hotel to the property. By August 2022, the newly expanded casino was introduced with 98,000 square feet of gaming space. Meanwhile, work on the new 23-story, 317-room hotel is nearing completion.
