Horseshoe Indianapolis history

The racino now known as Horseshoe Indianapolis began life as a racetrack when Indiana Downs opened in April 2003.

In 2007, Indiana lawmakers passed legislation authorizing the state's pari-mutuel racetracks to add slot machines. In June 2008, Indiana Downs opened a 70,000-square-foot temporary gaming facility with more than 1,900 slots while constructing a permanent structure. By spring 2009, the larger, 233,000-square-foot structure was completed and opened its doors under a new name: Indiana Live! Casino. In 2012, the facility rebranded as Indiana Grand Casino.

Meanwhile, in 2011, the casino's owner, Indianapolis Downs, declared bankruptcy. Following months of negotiations, the property was acquired in early 2013 by Indianapolis-based Centaur Holdings, which renamed the property Indiana Grand Racing & Casino. It was around that same time Centaur also acquired the state's other racino, Hoosier Park.

In 2018, Caesars Entertainment acquired Centaur Holdings, becoming the new owner of both these racinos. Starting in March 2021, Caesars embarked on a major renovation that included adding gaming space and a new WSOP Poker Room while upgrading the design and architectural features. That work was completed in February 2022, with the new and improved facility renamed Horseshoe Indianapolis.
