List Of Approved Sportsbook Licensees In Indiana Grows To Seven

PointsBet will be participating in the sports betting scene in the Hoosier State.

This morning, the Indiana Gaming Commission (IGC) included the online sportsbook in its list of approved licensees.

PointsBet will be the fifth online sportsbook in Indiana once it officially commences operations across the state. The new entrant will collaborate with Lawrenceburg’s Hollywood Casino for its operations.

PointsBet is now operational in Indiana, making it the third state to join Iowa and New Jersey.

Competition among Indiana sportsbooks is escalating.

The market becomes more crowded as more sportsbooks open their digital doors in Indiana.

PointsBet is set to join DraftKings, FanDuel, BetRivers, and BetAmerica in the Indiana market. Given their competitors’ head start, they face a challenging battle to secure their own slice of the Hoosier State’s handle.

Furthermore, BetIndiana and BetMGM also got the green light from IGC to operate in the state last week. This raises the total count of licensed sportsbooks in the state to seven.

DraftKings has led the online betting industry in Indiana. In December alone, the company garnered more than $66 million in bets. This is significantly more than the $35 million in handle that FanDuel, the next closest competitor, managed to pull in.

The dominance of DraftKings can be partially attributed to the speed at which they launched their business in Indiana. They, along with BetRivers, were the inaugural mobile sportsbooks to start operations in the state, as early as October.

The lack of in-person registration requirement for online betting in Indiana has simplified and made the signup process more convenient for bettors in the state. This has significantly contributed to the rapid growth of the industry in Indiana since it began.

The successful beginning has been advantageous for sportsbooks such as DraftKings. Now, PointsBet is prepared to join the fray.

Despite DraftKings currently having a secure foothold, the entry of PointsBet and other prospective competitors will make maintaining their lead increasingly challenging.

What can be expected from the launch of PointsBet in Indiana?

Originally, PointsBet aimed to launch its platform in Indiana before Super Bowl Sunday. However, with less than a week left until the big game, this goal seems unlikely to be achieved.

Despite receiving approval from the IGC, the process of going online still requires some time.

Despite receiving approval for their Temporary Vendor License in September, BetAmerica, the latest online sportsbook to enter Indiana’s market, was unable to commence online betting until the end of December.

There could be a substantial period between approval and launch, and PointsBet might find itself in a similar situation.

The slow implementation of legal sports betting in Indiana’s neighboring states has provided an opportunity for Indiana’s sportsbooks to attract business from these bordering states.

In time, as more states establish their own sports betting systems, that opportunity will cease to exist.

Even though PointsBet hasn’t confirmed a specific launch date for their online services, it can be confidently assumed that they are aiming to enter the market as quickly as possible to capitalize on the current opportunity.
