Indiana sports betting has taken a hit to start 2023, and April continued the trend with $321.4 million in bets, down 25.8% from March.

Looking ahead, Indiana appears to have the best chance among remaining states to legalize online casinos as soon as 2024.

Its app customizes to each bettor, and between its live betting and live ticket system, players have nearly unrivaled flexibility. DraftKings offers a steady stream of ever-changing promotions, which means there's always something new for Hoosiers to try out. Deals help you get more bang for your buck, and they've certainly become a main focus for the DraftKings website and app.

Caesars Sportsbook

2. Caesars Sportsbook

Caesars Sportsbook in Indiana offers new users a generous welcome offer and flexible betting limits. Caesars brings the confidence of experience and success to the Hoosier State. The newly-redesigned site runs smoothly and offers numerous rotating promotions and a generous rewards program. Since Caesars Entertainment is one of the largest gambling companies in the world, Hoosiers that use the Caesars Sportsbook app get to reap the benefits of the company's vast resources. Caesars often has the best odds in the state, and those odds receive frequent updates to make sure that gamblers have access to all of the latest options.

BetMGM Sportsbook

3. BetMGM Sportsbook

BetMGM in Indiana has the smoothness and fluidity of a site that has been overhauled and refined. You will find a clean and easy-to-navigate site indicative of the operator's world-class pedigree. The “King of Sportsbooks” makes the user a priority by offering one of the best live-betting experiences in Indiana. That kind of wagering needs a fast-moving service that can update on the fly. BetMGM's live betting product isn't perfect, but it's still easily one of the best options in the state for Hoosiers looking to bet on the action as it's happening.

BetRivers Sportsbook

4. BetRivers Sportsbook

BetRivers in Indiana offers one of the most in-depth rewards systems for sports bettors. The more you wager, the more points for the site's bonus store that you'll receive. Hoosiers can redeem their points on everything from VIP Promotions to, on the higher end of the program, an Apple or Android device. BetRivers knows Indiana's market well. The company opened for business on the very first day of legal Indiana sports betting back in 2019. In other words, BetRivers knows what Hoosiers want to wager on the most, and the company puts those options front and center.

DraftKings Sportsbook

5. FanDuel Sportsbook

FanDuel in Indiana offers excellent customer service and some of the most generous and persistent bonuses. FanDuel maintains a daily odds boost feature. The site adds new contests every day, which helps to keep the betting experience fresh for gamblers. Few Indiana sportsbooks will hand out more goodies or have more betting options than FanDuel. FanDuel also offers a wide range of support for parlay betting. The app's Same Game Parlay Plus option lets Hoosiers stitch together multiple parlay bets. Few other sportsbooks in the state offer the same number of in-depth variations of parlay betting that FanDuel does.

Betway Sportsbook

6. Betway Sportsbook

Betway Sportsbook Indiana has plenty of experience taking bets internationally as one of the top options in Europe. Since it opened for business in Indiana back in May 2021, the sportsbook has had plenty of time to get accustomed to the state's market. Betway isn't the biggest company on the sports betting block, but it makes up for that by offering a wider catalogue of betting options than some of its competitors. Betway excels at letting Hoosiers place bets on even the most obscure sports that regulators allow in Indiana.

Other Indiana sportsbooks

Barstool Sportsbook

  • Best Feature: Betting with Barstool personalities

Barstool Sportsbook Indiana is one of the more distinct betting apps in the state thanks to the wider Barstool Sports brand. Most sportsbooks don't have an enormously popular sports media brand to pair with their betting app, but that's what makes Barstool Indiana so unique. Stoolies will enjoy Barstool Sportsbook a lot more than the typical Hoosier. That's largely due to the fact that all of Barstool's biggest names are the focal points of the site's betting options. For example, the sportsbook often runs promotions where gamblers get a special deal if they back a Barstool personality like Big Cat or Dave Portnoy. Betting on the same thing as a sports celebrity might not be for everyone, but the deals are a fun way to make gamblers feel like they're a part of a larger group.

Bally Bet Sportsbook

  • Best Feature: Top bets section

If you've visited Bally's Casino Evansville or watched the local broadcast of an Indiana Pacers game, then you're already familiar with the company's brand. Bally Bet made its Indiana debut in December 2021. Bally Bet has all of the usual betting options available, so gamblers in Indiana never have to miss out on the action. The sportsbook also features a “top bets” section where Hoosiers can view all of the most popular wagers at the sportsbook. That can help gamblers understand what the average joe is betting on at any given time. If nothing else, the feature can operate as a list of suggestions if you're not sure what to bet on.

PointsBet Sportsbook

  • Best Feature: Points Betting

PointsBet Sportsbook is one of the more unique operators in Indiana, thanks to its signature product. Points Betting combines elements of a spread bet with a multiplier that can generate huge wins for bettors. In a nutshell, the bigger the margin of victory is for your bet, the more money you win. However, the reverse is also true. The larger your bet falls short by, the more money you lose.

Hard Rock Sportsbook

  • Best Feature: Starting Soon

Hard Rock Sportsbook became the 13th sportsbook app in Indiana in August 2022. The brand itself is the same as the well-known restaurant chain, with its music memorabilia lining the walls. Visitors to the app will find a clean, easy-to-use layout with sports and league-specific tabs to aid your navigation. The standout feature on Hard Rock is the Starting Soon section, which is a great way to stay informed about the games that are about to kick off. The app also features a Live Zone section with all the games underway. So, if you want to keep abreast of games in real-time and make sure to capitalize on all pre-game and in-game opportunities, Hard Rock Sportsbook is a great option to have.

SBK Sportsbook

  • Best Feature: Parlay Picker

SBK Sportsbook is one of a handful of international gambling companies that have made their way to Indiana. In true European fashion, SBK excels at offering a wide selection of betting options on soccer games. That's in addition to other traditional sports wagering options. The betting app's Parlay Picker is also one of the more unique randomized features that you'll find in Indiana. If you're feeling lucky, then you can let SBK's Parlay Picker generate a random parlay for you to bet on. You can choose between either three, four or five parlay legs to mix up your experience every time.

WynnBet Sportsbook

  • Best Feature: Local team promotions

WynnBet has gone out of its way to make Indiana one of its premiere markets in the US. The sportsbook has partnerships in place with some of the state's favorite professional teams like the Cincinnati Reds and Indianapolis Colts. Those partnerships allow WynnBet to offer special promos and deals that you can only find in Indiana. Unique opportunities like that give Hoosiers a chance to get a great deal for betting on the teams that they care about the most.

Indiana sports betting in 4 steps

  • Step 1: Download the sportsbook app of your choice.

With so many different sportsbooks available in Indiana's market, there's something for everyone. Use the “Comparing Indiana Sports Betting Apps” section above to help you narrow down your options.

  • Step 2: Register your account

Signing up for an online sportsbook only takes a few minutes. Just be aware that you'll need your Social Security number and driver's license for identification purposes.

  • Step 3: Make a deposit

No surprise here, but you'll need to fund your sportsbook account before you can place a wager. Online betting apps have all sorts of deposit options available such as bank transfers and PayPal.

  • Step 4: Place a legal sports wager

The final step of Indiana sports betting is actually placing your wager. Just search the sportsbook of your choice for a game to bet on, click on what you'd like to wager and you're good to go!

What you can bet on in Indiana

Depending on the season, Hoosiers can bet on every game from all of the major professional sports leagues such as the NFL, NBA, MLB and NHL. The home teams are featured betting attractions:

The college counterparts of the pro leagues and special events, such as March Madness, are also popular betting fixtures in Indiana:

Other sports include golf, tennis and motor racing (NASCAR, F1 and IndyCar). You can also bet on MMA and boxing:

Indiana also allows betting on special events that are not available in other states around the country. Some of those events include:

  • The Academy Awards
  • Summer and Winter Olympic games

What you can't bet on in Indiana

As long as you're at least 21 years old, then you can legally wager on all of the approved events for betting in Indiana. Gamblers can bet on pro sports and collegiate action in the US, plus a wide range of other events from overseas.

Despite that, there are still a few betting options that Hoosiers don't have access to.

First and foremost, you can't bet on amateur athletes who are younger than 18. That takes any sort of K-12 sports event off the table for gambling.

Indiana sportsbooks are also not allowed to offer odds on any esports events. Some other states have already legalized esports betting, but Indiana's sports betting laws specifically forbid it in the Hoosier State.

The Indiana legislature might eventually bring esports betting into the fold, but at least for now, wagering on gaming events is out of the question.
