Indiana Gaming Commission Gives Thumbs Up To Gatorade And Other Super Bowl Prop Bets

In the Big Game, Indiana sports gamblers will have more wagering opportunities beyond the on-field action.

The Indiana Gaming Commission (IGC) has recently given the green light to a list of Super Bowl prop bets for Indiana sportsbooks. The betting options range from the coin toss to the Gatorade celebration.

Indiana Gaming Commission permits prop bets

The full list of approved props for Super Bowl betting has been published on its website by the IGC. The list includes:

  • Coin toss outcome
  • Player who correctly calls the coin toss
  • Team to win both the coin toss and the game
  • Is a flea flicker going to occur?
  • Color of Gatorade shower
  • Who will the Super Bowl MVP give their first thanks to?
  • After the game, Player X will retire.

Indiana is just beginning to offer these bets, whereas last year they were already available in New Jersey sportsbooks. DraftKings NJ had bets on the potential retirement of Rob Gronkowski or Tom Brady, while FanDuel Sportsbook allowed wagers on the color of the Gatorade.

Some of these seem to be entirely novel for the US market, such as the player who correctly calls the coin toss.

Please be aware that, although these bets will be accessible, you won’t be able to place a very high wager on them. Betting markets like these are usually limited to a few hundred dollars at most. Sportsbooks see them as an entertaining supplement to the standard betting list, where punters can place larger bets.

The Super Bowl will be broadcasted on FOX on Sunday, Feb. 2. While the game starts at 6:30 p.m. ET, betting has already begun at all sportsbooks in Indiana.

Indiana emerging as a leading betting market

Indiana, often nationally regarded as a conservative state, defies this perception in the context of sports betting. Unlike states such as West Virginia and Pennsylvania that maintain stringent regulations on betting solely on sports events, Indiana exhibits a more open attitude towards exploring new betting markets.

The IGC had earlier sanctioned wagering on all major sports league drafts. Now, by incorporating these Super Bowl props, the state is distinguishing itself as one of the most daring betting jurisdictions in the nation.

Many jurisdictions, Nevada included, are hesitant to accept certain types of bets due to concerns about collusion and cheating. It’s clear that there are individuals at the Super Bowl who can determine the color of the Gatorade in advance. Given these circumstances, Nevada and other regions are reluctant to engage in such betting. On the other hand, Indiana and New Jersey embody a fresh perspective on sports betting; they are open to accepting these bets, provided that the betting amounts are kept minimal.

Will the new sportsbooks be launched in time for the Big Game?

It’s uncertain whether Indiana will see any more online sportsbooks launch before Super Bowl Sunday, despite more than one operator pledging to launch pre-Super Bowl. With less than a month to go until the big event, only four operators are currently active.

These new props may not necessarily stimulate the activity that propels books to launch tomorrow. Operators are certainly considering the potential loss of the biggest betting day of the year. Whether there are Gatorade bets or not, there is a drive to increase the number of Indiana betting apps, especially with the significant profits to be made on Feb. 2.
