Jackson family headlines Hard Rock Casino groundbreaking
The Indiana Gaming Commission (IGC) has not yet approved the license for the casino. However, Indiana Gov. Eric Holcomb recently went on the record about what a high priority getting the new land-based casino up and running quickly.
The Hard Rock will replace the two Majestic Star Casinos previously located on the banks of Lake Michigan. The new property will take advantage of the change in Indiana law that means casinos do not have to be on the water to offer casino gaming.
Nonetheless, the project’s developers broke ground on the casino. The event included much fanfare as well as one of music’s most famous families.
Last Thursday, Jackie, Tito, and Marlon of the original Jackson 5 returned to their hometown Gary, Indiana to break ground on the proposed Hard Rock Casino. The Rocksino at Terre Haute will house memorabilia of the famous group.
Details about the proposed 100,000 square-foot casino
Spectacle Jack LLC, a subsidiary of Spectacle Entertainment, proposed plans of 1,150 slot machines and 50 gaming tables in the new casino. In addition, there will be four restaurants, four bars along with an enclosed, temperature-controlled walkway to the adjacent Home2Suites.
At the present time, the planned amenities include:
- A Hard Rock Cafe with planned seating for 125 customers
- A fine dining steakhouse that can seat 60 guests
- A buffet that houses up to 175 guests
- Branded Hard Rock center bar and sportsbook that seats up to 75 people
- The Constant Grind, a Hard Rock coffee shop for up to 25 customers and open 24-hours a day
- Velvet Sessions, a 300-seat entertainment venue capable of hosting events
- A high limit lounge
- A Rock Shop or Hard Rock’s branded gift shop
That’s not all either. Included in the proposed development is a provision for a future on-site hotel. There will also be a retail sportsbook.
Currently, 1,500 parking spaces surround the building with four proposed convenient entrances to the casino.
Rocksino will be located on the southwest side of Bill Farr Drive and Joe Fox Street. This is immediately south of the Walmart Super Center along U.S. 40/Indiana 46 on the east side of Terre Haute.
On Friday, the IGC announced a meeting on Feb. 7 at the Vigo County Public Library to consider the license application. There is still no specific time the meeting will start.
