How to read Cincinnati Bengals betting lines

There are several different types of bets that you will see when you go to bet on football, whether it is betting on college football or the Bengals. The main ones include:

  • Point Spread
  • Moneyline
  • Total

Bengals Point Spread

Cincinnati Bengals Betting Odds 2023 1Each NFL game is assigned a margin of victory handicap that is referred to as the point spread. When you bet on the point spread, you are basically betting on a team to cover that handicap. Here is an example of this:

  • Cincinnati Bengals +3.5
  • Baltimore Ravens -3.5

In this scenario, the Bengals are listed as underdogs on the road, which is indicated by the “+” sign that precedes the handicap number. Therefore, Cincinnati is a 3.5-point underdog. This means that if the Bengals win outright or lose by three points or less then they cover the spread. Meanwhile, the “-“ sign next to Baltimore indicates that the Ravens are the betting favorites at -3.5. This means that Baltimore needs to win by four points or more to cover the spread.

Bengals Moneyline

Another type of bet that you might see is the moneyline, which is simply focused on picking the outright winner of a specific matchup. This is an example of what that might look like:

  • Cincinnati Bengals +280
  • Baltimore Ravens -300

Unlike with the point spread in which you need to worry about teams covering margins of victory, the only thing you need to worry about with the moneyline is picking an outright winner.

The betting odds are listed next to the teams. As is the case with the point spread, the “+” sign indicates the underdog and the “-“ sign indicates the betting favorite. If you are betting on Baltimore to win outright, you would need to risk $300 to win $100 taking them at -300 odds. At the same time, if you bet on Cincinnati then you could risk $100 to win $280 since they are the sports betting underdog.

Bengals Totals Odds (Over/Under)

In addition to the point spread and moneyline, you could also bet the total for any NFL matchup. This is an excellent option if you think there will be a high-scoring or low-scoring game but you aren't really sure which team will win. The total might look something like this:

  • Cincinnati Bengals @ Baltimore Ravens
  • Total: 44.5

In this scenario, all you need to do is predict whether the Bengals and Ravens will combine to score more or less than 44.5 points. If the teams combine to score 45 points or more, then the OVER will be considered the winning bet. If the teams combine to score 44 points or fewer, then the UNDER will be considered the winning bet.

Cincinnati Bengals Division: AFC North

The Bengals are based in the AFC North division. The other three teams in that division are:

3 things to know when betting the Cincinnati Bengals

1. They play in an outdoor stadium

The Bengals play at Paul Brown Stadium, which is an outdoor stadium. That means that when the temperatures start to get frigid in the fall and winter, they are used to those elements. If they have to go and travel on the road to face another team in wintry conditions, they'll be somewhat used to that. And if they have to go indoors to a dome, that is usually even better for them.

2. Don't have a great home-field advantage

There are some stadiums in the NFL that are known as great home-field advantages. Teams like the Green Bay Packers, who play at Lambeau Field, or the New England Patriots, who play at Gillette Stadium, play at venues that intimidate their opponent. Unfortunately for the Bengals, their stadium just isn't that. They have an edge when they're playing at home – as most NFL teams do – but opponents don’t fear visiting the Bengals at any time of the year.

3. The Bengals don't have a track record of success

Whether it's an issue from ownership, the management or the coaching, one consistent issue for the Bengals is that they don't have a track record of success. For a long period of time, they were known as “The Bungles” as they had a way of finding new ways to lose or disappoint.

The Bengals haven't won a playoff game since 1990, which shows just how long of a drought they've had in terms of playoff success.
