Horseshoe Indianapolis history

Horseshoe Indianapolis, currently known as a racino, originally started as a racetrack named Indiana Downs in April 2003.

In 2007, legislation was passed by Indiana lawmakers that allowed the state’s pari-mutuel racetracks to introduce slot machines. Following this, in June 2008, Indiana Downs launched a temporary gaming facility of 70,000 square feet, housing over 1,900 slots as they constructed a permanent building. By spring 2009, the construction of the larger, 233,000-square-foot structure was finished and it opened as Indiana Live! Casino. The facility underwent a rebranding in 2012, changing its name to Indiana Grand Casino.

In 2011, the owner of the casino, Indianapolis Downs, filed for bankruptcy. After several months of discussions, the property was purchased by Centaur Holdings, a company based in Indianapolis, in early 2013. The new owner renamed the property to Indiana Grand Racing & Casino. Around the same period, Centaur also took over the state’s other racino, Hoosier Park.

In 2018, Caesars Entertainment took over Centaur Holdings, thus becoming the new proprietor of these racinos. From March 2021, Caesars commenced a significant renovation, which encompassed the expansion of the gaming area and the introduction of a new WSOP Poker Room, along with enhancements to the design and architectural aspects. This refurbishment was finalized in February 2022, resulting in the revamped facility being rebranded as Horseshoe Indianapolis.
